Women's Whitewater Clinic

Guided Whitewater

Beef up the basics!

A guided trip for women on Coloma to Greenwood with expert instruction along the way. This is the perfect opportunity for meeting other women paddlers and learning how to play more on your way down stream. In this supportive environment we will be refreshing your technique and learning new skills for you to feel safer and more in control on the water. We will be working on catching "challenge" eddies, zipping across jet ferries, and introductory surfing. Bring your own picnic lunch and relax in good company on the river!

This is perfect for those who have taken a kayak 201 class and can reliably catch eddies, ferry across the river, and get their combat roll almost all of the time.

Cost: $129.00 Minimum Enrollment: 3; Maximum Enrollment: 9 (with 2 instructors)

Includes kayak, kayaking equipment and river permit.

Duration of class: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Time on water: Approximately 5 hours

Location: CCK Coloma Outpost and the South Fork American River from Coloma to Lotus

Prerequisite: Whitewater Kayak 201, or equivalent experience. Good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; river kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for Whitewater Kayaking Essentials is 14 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Whitewater Kayak 101 (Two Day)

Start exploring rivers the right way with professional instruction from California Canoe & Kayak. Reliable flows and great weather make the South Fork American River one of the best rivers to learn on in the world. This two-day class will cover balance and control of the kayak, self-rescue and safety fundamentals while learning to navigate rapids up to Class II. We emphasize safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition using sit-inside kayaks. This class typically covers the parts of the South Fork from Marshall Gold to Camp Lotus.

Location: CCK Coloma Outpost and the South Fork American River from Coloma to Lotus

Cost: $279 Minimum Enrollment:  3.  Includes kayak, kayaking equipment, and river permit.

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (2 days)

Prerequisite: No previous kayaking experience is required, but a good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; river kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for Whitewater Kayak 101 is 16 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Whitewater Skills Training

Guided WhitewaterThis class is designed for people who have taken our 101 level class, but want more experience.  Paddle with an instructor from C to G so that you can increase your understanding of whitewater paddling, and this popular stretch of river.

Location: CCK Coloma Outpost and the South Fork American River from Coloma to HLP or Greenwood

Cost: $129 Minimum Enrollment: 3Includes kayak, kayaking equipment and river permit.

Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Prerequisite: Whitewater Kayak 101.  Good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; river kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for Whitewater Splash Kayak QuickStart is 14 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Whitewater Kayak 201 (Two Day)

WW Kayak 201This two day class is for those who want to take their whitewater skills to the next level.  The class expands upon the techniques learned in Whitewater 101, introducing jet ferrying, more dynamic eddy catching, and river running strategy.  The class utilizes a longer stretch of river with more dynamic rapids, covering the complete Coloma to Greenwood Creek run.

Location: CCK Coloma Outpost and the South Fork American River from Coloma to Greenwood Creek

Cost: $279  Minimum Enrollment: 3.  Includes kayak, kayaking equipment, and river permit.

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (2 days)

Prerequisite: Whitewater Kayak 101 or equivalent training and experience. A good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; river kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for whitewater Kayak 201 is 16 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Whitewater Kayak 301 (Two Day)

WW Kayak 301This class expands takes skills learned in the 201 class to the next level, with more challenging waters as you take on the Gorge run.

Location: CCK Coloma Outpost and the South Fork American River from Coloma to Salmon Falls

Cost: $279 Minimum Enrollment: 3,  Includes kayak, kayaking equipment and river permit.

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Two Days)

Prerequisite: Whitewater Kayak 201 or equivalent training and experience, plus a solid roll. Good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; river kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for Whitewater Kayak 301 is 16 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Note: CCK has a permit for the South Fork of the American River.
