April 2017:

April 8th: South Fork Opening Day

South Fork Opening Day, April 8th Cancelled Due To Weather

AW Logo

 Update:

Bad weather, heavy rain and high wind, and potentially high water levels are predicted from Friday through Sunday on the South Fork and in the Coloma Valley. Given this it is prudent for safety reasons to cancel this year’s Opening Day event.

This is simultaneously an easy and tough decision. It is tough because American Whitewater needs our financial support more than ever. Opening Day has been very successful in that regard since inception. It is easy for obvious reasons. Weather will suck; predicted road closures may prevent instructors from actually getting to the CCK Outpost. Paddling high water in control and teaching high water paddling are vastly different. Both CCK and Team Jackson want to teach the skills; we do not want to create an offshoot of a popular TV reality show. Bottom line: Safety First. Finally, a wet, cold and windy outdoor evening party just isn’t that appealing for an AW Fundraiser.

All is not lost for AW! We will be holding the raffle after all tickets are sold. This will raise $4000!

All of our donators are on board with this and should be thanked! We will hold a mini event at the Outpost to pull winners – date TBA; need not be present to win. You can purchase tickets here.

Clinic participants – in addition to this announcement you will be notified individually. Your support of AW through these clinics is greatly appreciated. We are disappointed we cannot deliver safely. You have four options:

1) Refund

2) Donation to AW

3) Conversion of clinic fee to 10 AW Raffle tickets

4) Possible credit towards a clinic with local Team Jackson paddlers Greg Didriksen and Phil Boyer. If we can schedule this we will be able to accommodate 10 paddlers.

Please call us at (510) 893 7833 or (916) 851 3600 to select your option.

That’s it. We will look forward to Opening Day 2018!

Cheers – CCK crew, Team Jackson and American Whitewater!

Cheers - Keith
