Opening Day 2017!

Big Water. This is the theme for Opening Day 2017.  California Canoe & Kayak’s 5th Annual Opening Day will be a drought busting celebration of rivers and whitewater. Sponsored by Jackson Kayak and Ninkasi Brewery, Opening Day is a major western fund raiser for American Whitewater (www.americanwhitewater.org) who, on a national level, works tirelessly to protect rivers and our access to them. Given the environmentally destructive administration in Washington, AW’s work for us is more important than ever!

Whitewater Kayak Classes for Beginners

At CCK we have two ways to get started in whitewater classes.  As with most classes at CCK, the minimum age for Whitewater Kayaking Essentials is 14 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  No previous kayaking experience is required, but good physical condition is suggested. Classes should typically be taken in order as listed, however Whitewater Essentials may be taken before Whitewater Splash.

Whitewater Splash Kayak QuickStart

  • If running rapids sounds fun, this is the easiest way to go. SOT Kayaks designed for whitewater are fun and stable.
  • Learn some fundamentals of river safety and kayak control, then be lead down rapids (up to Class II) with one of our expert instructors.
  • Catch those eddies, learn to ferry with finesse, practice and apply the skills learned in our Whitewater Kayaking Essentials class with coaching from our expert instructors on class II whitewater.
  • Your first step to becoming a self-sufficient paddler ready to explore the river with friends of the same skill level.
  • $99 per paddler. Minimum class size is 3; Max class size is 8 (with 2 instructors).

Whitewater Kayak Essentials (2 Day Class)
